Antalya: Turkey's Enchanting Gem Attracts Millions in an Unforgettable Tourist Journey
Antalya, located on the Mediterranean coast and known as the "Capital of Turkish Tourism," broke a record in tourist numbers in 2023.
The city welcomed around 15.5 million visitors, reflecting its growing popularity as a global tourist destination.
In a conversation with Anadolu Agency, the Governor of Antalya, Khlusi Shahin, stated that the province contributes nearly 14 billion dollars annually to the country's economy, most of which is attributed to tourism.
Antalya ranks second after Istanbul in terms of gross domestic product and is distinguished by its magnificent beaches that raise the Blue Flag, and is famous for golf, medical tourism, cultural activities, and hosting international conferences.
In 2023, Antalya managed to attract visitors from over 100 countries, with Russia, Germany, the United Kingdom, Poland, the Netherlands, Kazakhstan, Romania, and the Czech Republic being the top tourist-sending countries.
Shahin emphasized that Antalya experienced a rapid recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic, and the numbers achieved this year exceeded the expectations of workers and investors in the tourism sector.
He added that the province has a large accommodation capacity, with more than 640,000 beds and about 2,500 tourist facilities, further enhancing its status as a major tourist destination in the region.
