Arab tourism in Turkey
Street signs in Istanbul named in Arabic – Arab tourism in Turkey
In addition to Turkish and English, the Istanbul municipality has added Arabic to major street signs and tourist attractions. The purpose of this move is to encourage Arab tourism and provide tourists with ease of movement around the city with a minimum need for help with directions.
After an absence of 9 decades, Arabic alphabets are coming back to the scene through street signs in Istanbul.
The signs aim at providing tourists with major street names and historical sites such as; mosques, museums, sea, and land transportation stations in addition to famous parks to mention the least.
Arabic was introduced earlier at metro and tram stations and is being introduced now to street signs
Many Arab tourists and employees in the tourism sector have hailed this move as a positive step in easing tourists’ movement around the tourist and historical sites in the city.
A tourist from Saudi Arabia commented: “these signs have helped us immensely in getting from one point to another and what types of transportation are needed in a mega city such as Istanbul. You need to be a long-term resident to remember names of places and roads. This move will definitely promote Arab tourism to Turkey”.
Lately, Turkey and Istanbul, in particular, has been considered as a major hub of Arab tourism.
