Permit residence law in Turkey
The Turkish immigration department has introduced a series of important amendments to the foreign residency and international protection legislation numbered 6458 and issued on 4 April 2013. The legislation falls within the foreign workmanship law which went into effect following its publishing in the official newspaper.
Special amendments – Permit residence law in Turkey
The new amendments to the foreign residency and international protection legislation stipulate the following points:
- Applications can be submitted through establishments assigned by the Turkish immigration general directorate.
- Short term residency permits are valid now for 2 years in comparison to the 1-year term previously.
- The cancellation of the clause which voided the short-term residency permit if individuals stay outside Turkey for more than 120 days in the last year of residency.
- The cancellation of the clause which voided the family residency permit if family members stay outside Turkey for more than 180 days in the last year of residency.
- Extension of family residency permit to 3 years maximum in comparison to 2-year validity previously.
- For short-term and family residency permits, a new list of guidelines will be issued stating the period which the residency permit holder can stay outside Turkey.
- Foreign students enrolled in Turkish universities and institutions will be granted residency permits covering their duration of the study.
- The cancellation of the legislation limiting foreign students work hours to 24 per week. A new legislation regarding the new working hours will be published accordingly.
The above has been issued and published on 13 August 2017 and went into effect following its publishing in the official newspaper.
