Turkey plans to restore historic mosques in Libya – Turkish relations
An agreement between the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments in Libya and the Turkish Religious Affairs Directorate has been reached to cooperate on the restoration of old and historic mosques in Libya which date back to the Ottoman era.
The agreement came into effect during an official visit by the Turkish Ambassador to Libya – Ahmet Aydin Doğan – to the General Authority of Islamic Affairs and Endowments in the Libyan capital of Tripoli.
According to the endowment official site, the Turkish Ambassador has
been welcomed by the chairman of endowment along with the vice chairman.
The Libyan Religious Authority said that the visit witnessed a preliminary agreement between the two parties on mutual cooperation between the two countries’ Religious Authorities.
The agreement will oversee the restoration of old and historical mosques dating back to the Ottoman era and the fostering of religious affairs between the two countries.
Libya contains many Ottoman mosques and historical sites which were heavily damaged during the violence witnessed across the country after the overthrow of the ex-President Muammar Gaddafi.
This agreement falls in line with Turkey’s efforts in boosting and improving bilateral relations with the Arab and Muslim World.
