Foreign Nationals and Property Ownership in Turkey
Before 2012, Turkey had strict reciprocity laws that restricted many foreigners from purchasing property unless a Turkish national could buy a home in their respective country. However, in May 2012, the Turkish government implemented new regulations, opening the Turkish property market to nationals from over 129 countries. Despite these changes, some rules remain. For instance, real estate owned by a foreign national in a Turkish town can't exceed 10% of the town's land area, and a foreign national can't purchase more than 300,000 sqm of land in Turkey without first acquiring approval from the Ministry of Interior.
